Help! How Do I Find Time for Everything?

Lately I’ve been finding it hard to keep up with everything; hence my mini hiatus from blogging.

Between juggling work and trying to get everything organised before I go on holiday in a couple of weeks, it’s been kind of hectic.

To be fair, one thing I would say about myself is that I’m a fairly organised person. I love “To Do” lists; yes I’m one of those!

Okay, I do check Twitter and Facebook throughout the day, but hey we’re writers and it’s great to connect with other writers through social networking sites and blogging.

Apart from that, I try to stay relatively focused and disciplined. But yet, I’m finding it hard to find time for everything. So my apologies if I don’t get around to commenting on my favourite blogs as often as I would like.

Anyone else in the same boat? I’m sure with the end of the summer months & children starting back at school that it has been a hectic few weeks for the majority of you!

I came across something pretty cool recently, in relation to making time for what you want to do.

You make a list of everything that takes up your time. Writing, checking email, researching, watching tv, playing games, gossiping, worrying, shopping, cooking, etc. The list should be pretty long, and should cover everything you do.

Now, think of what you want to do with your life and cut anything that doesn’t align with this goal from your list. You don’t have to cut these things out of your life entirely, but anything you scratched off your list, you should try to cut down on.

In this way you make more time for what you really want.

  2. I agree- This year is absolutely flying by! You certainly are a busy lady and what with the launch approaching, 2011 will be here before we know it!

  3. Ria, that’s a great idea:) I should probably try and cut down on watching some TV and worrying. Although the latter can be the hardest thing to cut out.

I don’t know how people blog every day, read and comment on so many blogs, carry on with everyday life, read multiple books and write! I must be the worst at managing my time, because I just don’t seem able to do it all. I get very despondent at my ineptitude. Finished whining now. Back to work for me.

  5. You don’t sleep, that’s how. heh ;P

  6. Don’t worry, you’re so not alone in this. I also find it hard to find time for everything I want to do. At the time I’m trying and doing my best to finish everything I have started and then I’ll see how I can work out a new schedule… :)

  7. I just wrote about this phenomenon, as you know. It’s hard to balance everything. I struggle with it, so I can only imagine how it is for people who work full time or who have very small children. Good luck striking your own balance.

My strategy is three posts per week, work on my manuscript first, and then blog. Oh, and work, pay attention to the kids, laundry, ironing, and dinner in some sort of order.
